I was originally going to post about our Valentine’s Day plans. I was planning to spend the night documenting everything so I had something to blog about today.
But then I realized… what kind of quality time is it when I’m constantly pulling out my phone to document it all?
James and I didn’t do presents this year (we don’t most years). Valentine’s for us is more about just relaxing and spending time together. So our plan for this year was to make dinner together, and spend the night catching up on the new season of Girls. (We haven’t had HBO since last season, so we signed up yesterday with the sole purpose of catching up on season 2.)
We followed our plans just as we had meant to, but with one major difference… our phones were put in a drawer in the other room. So I have no photos to share with you… no cute Instagrams of Chloe… no photos of our delicious homemade spaghetti dinner… no pictures of us toasting our glasses of red wine…
But I do have something else – memories of quality time spent with my husband. And even though I’m a photographer, I’d have to say that is worth a heck of a lot more than a few crappy iPhone pictures with filters thrown on top.
This year our present to each other was being present WITH each other, and it was amazing. So amazing, in fact, we plan to do it a whole lot more often.
So I’m sorry I have no photos to share today (gasp!) – but hopefully our night spent being present will inspire you to do the same… even if it is just over dinner, or for an hour, or a night… or a day. 🙂
Have a great weekend you guys! I’m off to shoot a proposal today (my favorite!)! See you Monday!
