Oh friends, I don’t think I can fully explain how sweet it was to get to decorate a nursery. I have dreamt of this for so long, and getting to see all the little pieces come together was so wonderful. I find myself going in their room randomly throughout the day and just sitting in the middle of it – taking it all in. I imagine these two little boys growing in there and the fun we’ll have (and I’m sure sleepless nights too). I rearrange the built-in shelves over and over, and straighten things ‘just so’ constantly. And I’m pretty sure I call James up there EVERY. DAY. just to show him the newest touch I added (which he usually looks at for two seconds and says, “Nice!” and walks out… haha)!!
I had all these really high expectations for this space, but then I got a little more realistic about a budget and realized that this room is super oddly shaped!! haha. I mean, I knew that going into it – but I don’t think I fully understood all the odd angles and things until I was decorating it. 🙂 We started building our furniture a week ago and it basically became an obsession I couldn’t stop working on until it was done! My only regret is that we can’t fit a rocker or glider in this space – because that would be so nice to have when we are feeding and cuddling the boys – but that’s okay! I’m sure we’ll make it work regardless. 🙂
The idea for the nursery was to keep it super simple (since the space is small), and try to keep the colors as neutral as possible – while incorporating safari and animal touches here and there! 🙂 James has this thing for lions (which you may remember from this post I wrote a few years ago…) – so I knew I wanted to incorporate lions into their room, since we are officially becoming a ‘Pride’ now with the addition of these little dudes! I added touches of other animals as well, and a bit of a travel/explore theme with the globe I found (that James immediately wanted to steal to keep for himself… haha).
Anyway – enough chatter! Let’s get to the reveal! All sources for items are shared at the bottom of the post!
We left the paint color what it was when we moved in – so I’m not sure exactly what it is since the list our seller gave us definitely doesn’t match!
We took the doors and track off the giant closet and made the closet part of the room, which makes the space so much bigger!! That way we were able to decorate it, use it for storage, and put a changing table in there.
Have a beautiful weekend, everyone!! We’ll be tackling a few more projects around here and spending Sunday vegging out – and of course cheering on James’ Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl, as you do! (If my Packers can’t make it to the big game, I suppooooose I can cheer for J’s team. haha)
