I spent most of today driving back to Chicago and reviewing/editing pictures (while James studied for his test tomorrow)… so it really wasn’t feeling much like the 4th of July around the Tyler household. But then our friend (and now neighbor) Jake texted to see if we wanted to walk down to the lake front and see if we could catch a glimpse of some fireworks with him – since it actually is the 4th of July and all. We were hesitant (and busy) but decided it would be a nice break from all the stuff we had going on today. And man am I glad we went!
There were tons of people out to see the fireworks – and although Navy Pier is quite a ways from where we were – we still ended up having a great fireworks show right in front of us. (I guess they were amateurs setting them off? We were actually equally entertained watching the people lighting them as we were watching the fireworks. We were pretty convinced somebody was going to get lit on fire… but from what we saw – everybody made it out fire-free. Thank goodness! ha ha)
Anyway – you know I had to bring my camera. I rented the 45mm tilt/shift for the wedding this weekend, so I thought it would be fun to bring it out to experiment with and snap a few pics of fireworks. I was too lazy to drag a tripod along, so I did my best hand-held with slow shutter speeds. Here are a few of my favorites!
LOVED this capture… all the smoke from the fireworks was hanging over the harbor. So pretty!
I hope you all had a lovely 4th of July! 🙂
