Eric contacted me back in early July to start talking about the proposal he wanted to plan for his girlfriend, Aya. I looove getting these emails and helping plan this momentous occasion for these couples! The unknowing one is always completely shocked that they didn’t see this coming! And I just love seeing their reaction when they realize it was all photographed too!
Eric and Aya both live in Tokyo, but were planning on being back in the states for a work function, followed by a little vacation to the windy city… where he planned to pop the question! Not only did Eric have a ring ready for the occasion though (no, he had to one-up every other man on the planet! haha) – he also had custom diamond earrings made to give Aya first – because she adores earrings! It was so awesome catching her reaction to both of these surprises!!
We kept an eye on the weather forecast all day (rain was in the forecast), and decided to go with the plans as originally made since it looked like we may be able to dodge any rain! James and I set up our posts near the Nature Museum among a field of beautiful wildflowers, and waited for these two to wander up! The plans went off without a hitch and Aya was completely shocked and overjoyed! We had the most beautiful golden light for portraits near the Nature Museum, and managed to get to an underpass to hide out and chatted while we waited for the crazy storm to blow over! Once it did – we had the most beautiful view of the storm blowing over the skyline downtown – and it made for some of my favorite photos along the lakefront EVER!
